"Grief makes anger easier to reach" - A Weponese Scholar
In the moments after a war is won it is silent as each side grapples with the new world order. Then voices spill out, the winners shout to the entire world that they won and that the world would never be the same.
A century after America gained their independence from Britain, Avarn had just gotten their independence from Figip in a war that had separated the continent of Taloren in half. The war for Avarn had been years in the making and it was impossible to live on the Continent and not know about the war that was occurring.
In Loujire what had once been a highly encouraged option, now became a requirement as they mustered all their manpower to gain a valuable new ally. In Emorf the Lion Lords and Ladies drafted their citizens enmass, even participating themselves as army leaders. Figip became increasingly desperate as they drafted their army, losing too many to count. Surí found themselves changing assigned employments, even requiring several women to step into leadership positions in their army. Wepona stayed far away from the idea of a draft but strongly encouraged their citizens to join the army, and many responded to the call as their borders were pushed back into the mountains. Avarn won their battle with the help of their allies and the hero Jane Clear.
In the end there was only one who had remained far enough away from Taloren to not know about the war. One person who's attention was so focused inwardly that he had not heard about Avarn's victory. For Myallis, he was the only person who could help her take her revenge. Myallis had been paying an eagle eye's attention to the war and now, furious she went to find him in his lair under the Weponese sea.
She found him precisely where she thought she might, after diving into the water portal into Darreth's realm. Soaring across the vast river moat into the palace - far too big for one person - and landing untouched in the courtyard where Darreth sat silently, gazing into the pond reflecting nothing but his own face. Perhaps if she had been less angry Myallis would have hesitated to announce the news of Wepona's defeat, but it was too late because Myallis was already far further than furious.
"Darreth! Where have you been!"
"What is it Myallis?" Darreth didn't break gaze with his reflection.
"Figip's colony has defeated Surí and Wepona, they have devastated our country's land and people! Cleariope is to blame, she must be held accountable!"
"Wepona...?"
"Yes! The Orana family has been destroyed and the Epona family has been made a laughingstock among the Emish, Loujen and Avish."
Finally Darreth turned to look at her and Myallis saw with glee that there was fury in his eyes. "Cleariope has dared to touch Wepona?"
"She dared to try to destroy Wepona and Surí too." Myallis loved the way his eyes flashed when he was angry - no furious - no worse. He was the only one she could rely on to actually care about the upkeep of the order of the world. He was the only one who would be able to get the vote on his side so they could punish Cleariope.
A moment later, Darreth was gone. Sucked into the pool of water that had become a portal, Darreth disappeared. A moment later, Myallis felt the call for a Keeper's meeting and power was sucked out of her into a swirling round crown portal. She found herself in a jungle clearing, a place where the sun could touch the ground as greedy saplings competed with each other for the oh so precious sunlight. Darreth and Cleariope faced off against each other and as Myallis flapped her heavy body over to join the arctic wolf she caught a glimpse of his face and shivered. For the first time she doubted her decision to tell him.
