Curious about Emorf? Considering a character from here? Then you've come to the right place! Below you can find what you need to know about the country!
Pronunciation: em-OR-ph
Demonym: Emish
Slogan: The King of the Beasts
Kingdom Age: 461
Current Leader: King Bevan Tazela
Government System: Oligarchy
Each lion family governs a city or town, and they band together to make country wide decisions as well as decisions on international policy. This means each family fulfills the role of executor and legislator as well as having control over some aspect of the judicial system. Every member of the royal family gets a vote in the senate and any member of the family can use those votes, if more than one member of the family attends senate meetings the elder is the one with the extra votes. If no one in the family attends senate then they forfeit their vote for that session. Any noble may put forth a motion to be voted on. No one members vote may be removed without a 75% agreement by the rest of the senate. To strip a family of their nobility a 90% agreement must be made. Each noble family has their own standing military or guards and there is also a senate run organization - The Emish Special Police. When crimes are apprehended by this group, trials are held under the eyes of the senate instead of an individual family.
The capital city of Emorf is variable depending on which Noble Lion Family is currently the most influential in the country. Currently that family is the Tazela family who rule Buren. This makes Buren the capital city of Emorf.
Economic System: Barter System
The economy in Emorf is a system of trade for goods and services with other goods and services but while Emorf has no currency of their own, the currencies of other countries are often accepted as a tradable good. This foreign currency will either end up being circulated in the economy or melted down for its metal and recrafted.
Education:
Education is reserved for those who can pay for it whether that payment be in favours or pretty stones. As a result of this mentality the overall average literacy level in Emorf is very low. While traditional schools do exist in Emorf, they are not very common and depending on how well off the family is having a private tutor or apprenticing the child are more common options for official education. Many families teach their own children in their own home as this is much cheaper but isn’t accredited.
As a part of the oligarch and nobility, lions are most likely to find a suitable tutor for their children. Tigers are less well off and tutors are usually out of the question for them. Depending on how well off they are, their education ranges from traditional to apprenticeship. As the lowest on the ladder, Cheetah’s have a difficult time finding a way to educate their children. If possible their best option is apprenticeship, but usually children are home taught if the parents themselves have the knowledge but if not then there is no other option.
Family Structure:
In Emorf, multiple generations of a family live in the same house. Grandparents, parents, children, uncles, aunts, cousins etc. In lower class families, the merging of families as a result of any union (official or not) is common and all members of the family work together to support it. In upper class families, merging of families is extremely uncommon except in cases where one or both families are quite small. As lion marriages are usually marriages of convenience and alliance rather than of love, it is very common for only one or maybe two blood children to be born and for both individuals to keep a harem. The main goal of a Lion marriage are heirs so at least one blood child is the norm.
Those who live as concubines or illegitimate children of the lion nobles have a very different family life from the rest of the country. Concubines live inside the house of their Lord or Lady, away from their families and they all live in close contact with the other concubines of the household. A Lion Noble's house has two addition wings, one for the concubines of the men, and the other for the concubines of the women. Illegitimate children also live very differently from the rest of the country as they grow up with their concubine parent and are not considered a member of their noble parent's family even if they are, themselves, a lion. Illegitimate children often grow up to work on the property in roles ranging from guard duty to kitchen duty to working in the gardens.
Marriage:
A lion marriage is a big deal, both for the nobility and the common folk. Other lions are invited to the wedding and reception, and afterwards the married couple will meet the common folk where they receive congratulations and gifts from those under them. Lion marriages are always between a male and a female, to attempt otherwise would be a great scandal as blood children would not be possible, and thus, defeat the purpose. It is expected for a noble to keep a harem, almost all of them do. Common marriages are less official coming with much less pomp and circumstance, and most may never officially ‘marry’. For surnames, whoever is remaining with their family keeps their surname and the other one gives it up. If families are merging they take a new surname which can be anything from one of the original surnames to a combination of both to a completely new one. If a family splits and leaves each other they take a completely new surname.
Children:
Emish children have a reputation for taking responsibility and maturing quickly. Lion children as children of the nobility and be assured of a good upbringing and lots of space. Often made to take on responsibility and often subjected to arranged marriages, these children will always be cared for by their family as heirs to the estate. Peasant children though poorer will often be given more space just to be children, especially in their early years. Poor families however, will often have a child taking on responsibility at a early age as it is common for children to have to help support their family. Monetary reliance means that no matter the social class, children remain with their families well into adulthood and will often raise their own children alongside their parents and siblings.
Language: Emish
This language ignores the last letter of each word, and tends to have a simple structure with minimal rule breaking. For example: The vowel - consonant pattern.

Unwanted Children: Orphanages in Emorf are treated more like a business than a home for children. Adoption process is pay to adopt and children are given to whomever wants them. Children that end up in the orphanage are usually left there because their family is unable to care for them. Police do not involve themselves in private family matters without orders from the nobility so unfortunately children in bad homes find themselves unable to find safety in going to the police. Children with no family left to care for them end up on the streets, trying to stay out of the orphanage. Emorf has no foster system and children who are adopted are often adopted into an organization rather than a family.
